X-ray scans of the teeth, arms, legs and chest are generally safe, as they do not expose your reproductive organs. However, those involving the abdomen and lower back may expose your uterus, so a leaded apron and collar may be worn to block the radiation.
You might worry about putting your unborn baby at risk during an X-ray procedure, but studies show that the risk is quite remote, as the radiation level is very low.
It sounds unnerving indeed, but X-ray may be performed in pregnancy if medically necessary. Only if the benefits outweigh the risks is this procedure recommended. Other safer imaging modalities may be considered.
