At week 8, pregnant women may experience morning sickness. The great news is that not every woman have it. If you are one of the lucky few, you may not feel sick at all. But for most, this is a very common symptom which does not only strike in the morning but at any time of the day. It can last for a minute or for the whole day.
Nausea is caused by the rapid increase in pregnancy hormone. It is produced by the embryo once it starts implanting into the uterine lining. Most women feel better by the weeks 12-14.
Tips to feel better:
- eat 1-2 dry crackers in the morning;
- eat small amounts of food every 2 hours;
- eat food with ginger;
- sniff lemon zest;
- eat yogurt;
- eat dry foods like plain rice or mashed potatoes;
- take sips of water during the day;
- avoid tea, coffee and soda.
Nausea and vomiting during pregnancy is completely normal, but if you are unable to eat or drink anything during 6 hours - call your doctor.
