42 weeks and still no labor
42 weeks and still no labor

42 weeks is the longest possible time for you to carry your baby. By this time, there's an increased risk of the placenta losing its efficiency, which could affect your baby.

Your doctor will not waste any more time in delaying delivery. You may be offered a membrane sweep, a method to stimulate the cervix and trigger the release of hormones to kick-start labor. This is your chance of going into natural labor in next 48 hours.

If labor still hasn’t progressed, then an induction will be done immediately which involves the administration of oxytocin to trigger uterine contractions.

The goal, of course, is for you to deliver your baby safely without suffering from complications because of delayed childbirth. Labor induction may be costly and uncomfortable, but it’s all worth it when you finally give that last push.
