Hemorrhoids can strike any pregnant woman during the third trimester. You should know what to do if you think you may have this condition.
Causes of hemorrhoids
The main cause of hemorrhoids is the decreased blood flow around the pelvis and the
uterus area. Constipation, another common complaint in pregnancy, can also trigger
the development of hemorrhoids.
Signs and symptoms
Your behind will feel quite itchy, particularly at night. It is also not uncommon to
see streaks of fresh blood after doing a number two, since the enlarged blood
vessels can burst. It may also feel painful and uncomfortable.
Treatment
Eat high-fiber food all the time! You don’t need the extra bulk to make the
constipation worse. Drink plenty of fluids to help your digestion, too.
It is also advised to sleep on your left side to reduce the pressure on your rectum. Make it a habit to take a warm bath daily to soothe the discomfort. Lastly, don’t strain on the toilet because this will only add pressure to your rectum.
