Sushi during pregnancy
Sushi during pregnancy

For some, sushi is the ultimate comfort food. In pregnancy, it is a common craving. But with the raw fish and the high levels of mercury found in some species, sushi may be dangerous for expecting moms.

During pregnancy, your immune system is suppressed, so it can't attack your own baby. Because of that, bacteria and viruses from the food can be very dangerous. Pregnant women have a higher risk to be infected with listeriosis or even hepatitis A.

The bacteria and viruses die of high temperature. Therefore, it's not recommended to eat sushi made from raw fish. Instead, enjoy sushi made only with vegetables or cooked fish.
