Pregnancy is an important period to be cautious of what you eat. Remember that your baby receives what you take in; harmful substances from food can be detrimental.
Raw, smoked or undercooked meat and eggs are a no-no.
Fish, poultry, beef, pork and eggs are best avoided if they are raw, smoked or
undercooked. Eating them in these ways may transmit bacteria or parasites.
Avoid fish high in mercury.
Even when cooked, avoid king mackerel, swordfish and tilefish as they contain high
amounts of mercury that hinder your baby’s nervous system development.
Do not eat soft cheeses.
Feta, gorgonzola, camembert and brie are best avoided to prevent listeria. Stick to
hard cheeses, and make sure that they are pasteurized.
