Most pregnant women can schedule their first ultrasound at this week. It is definitely exciting as you can finally see your baby, and even take an image home!
For transabdominal ultrasound, you must have a full bladder to properly visualize the baby. You will be asked to lie down and relax. A transducer with gel will slide to different parts of your abdomen.
During the procedure, your baby’s measurements will be taken including the heartbeat. You will usually hear the heartbeat as a fast, galloping sound - definitely music to your ears!
After the procedure you will be given a copy of your first ultrasound report. Don’t forget to show your baby’s first image to your family and friends!
