Staying hydrated

As your body undergoes so many changes to accommodate your growing baby, you produce more blood and amniotic fluid. As your blood volume expands, you will feel more thirsty than usual.

Just drink plenty of water and aim for at least 8 glasses per day. If water makes you bloated, you may add fresh juices, coconut water or pasteurized milk to your diet.

You can also eat fruits that have a high water content such as watermelon, apples and oranges. Vegetables like spinach, cabbage, peppers, eggplant and cauliflower are also made up of plenty of water.

Being thirsty isn’t an excuse to drink just about any drink you want, though. Stay away from carbonated beverages, alcohol and caffeinated drinks. Stay hydrated in a healthy way for you and your baby.
