Protein is the nutrient needed to build your cells and your baby’s. You should get enough protein during pregnancy, particularly in the second and third trimesters when your baby is growing rapidly.
Protein enhances the immune system, promotes wound healing and helps provide energy for the pregnant mother. A high-protein diet also stabilizes the blood sugar to prevent diabetes
To get enough protein, eat at least three servings of the following:
• Pasteurized milk, cheese and yogurt
• Lean meats, poultry and fish
• Soybeans and tofu
• Nuts and seeds
• Eggs
