Iron in pregnancy
Iron in pregnancy

During pregnancy, your body increases its blood volume by 30-50%. In turn, the red blood cells increase in amount. To achieve this, your body requires iron.

A deficiency in iron makes it difficult to produce red blood cells, which are needed to carry oxygen to various organs. As a result, you may develop anemia which could be potentially problematic for you and your baby.

You can find iron in the following products:
• Red meat and poultry
• Beans and peas
• Fortified cereals and grains
• Green leafy vegetables
