Itching for a vacation? If you have no complications, your doctor may allow you to fly for as long as you have not reached 36 weeks yet. Generally, though, it is best to avoid flying during the final month of pregnancy.
Consult your doctor before any extended travel especially when you’re in the third trimester, and ask for a travel clearance or a medical certificate stating that you are fit to travel. Research about flying restrictions as every airline has different rules about how late in pregnancy they will allow a woman to board.
Depending on your destination, flying time may last for hours. This can be uncomfortable for you because of the limited space inside the aircraft.
To make your flying experience more comfortable, try to do the following tips:
- bring an extra pair of loose-fitting shoes;
- wear maternity stockings;
- request an aisle seat with more leg room;
- get up and walk around every 1-2 hours;
- drink a lot of fluids and eat small, frequent meals;
- read a book or listen to music.
