Varicose veins

Another common change that women experience during pregnancy is the appearance of varicose veins, those spider-like blood vessels that can be seen on the legs.

The growing baby puts extra pressure on the blood vessels in the legs and feet, making it harder for them to return blood to the heart. As a result, the veins can become stretched and enlarged, causing varicosities.

Fortunately, there are several things you can do to prevent varicose veins from developing:
- elevate your feet whenever you can;
- avoid crossing your legs;
- do not stand for long periods of time;
- wear maternity support stockings;
- wear comfortable shoes with proper heel support.
