Round ligament pain
Round ligament pain

Round ligament pain is a common discomfort experienced by many pregnant women. It is characterized by a sudden, sharp pain that can occur on one or both sides of the abdomen or hip areas. The pain may even extend to the back or groin area.

This pain is caused by the round ligament, which supports the uterus within the pelvic area. As the uterus grows during pregnancy, the round ligament stretches, leading to pain. It is particularly noticeable when making sudden movements like quickly standing up or when sneezing or coughing.

Fortunately, there are ways to help relieve the pain:
- lie down and get enough rest;
- change positions slowly;
- don’t make sudden movements;
- wear a special prenatal bandage.

Don’t worry - round ligament pain is normal during pregnancy, but if you experience severe or persistent pain, it's important to consult with your healthcare provider to rule out any other potential causes.
