Reaching week seven is an amazing milestone for you and your baby! This week, your baby now settles into the distinct C shape that will persist even after delivery.
Known as the fetal position, your baby will tuck into this shape, with the head towards the abdomen and the knees folded up into the chest. This shape also helps the umbilical cord stick to its rightful place, developing from your baby’s abdomen.
The umbilical cord is a vital pregnancy structure. Think of it as your baby’s lifeline, connecting itself to you. With the umbilical cord, you are able to transfer nutrients and oxygen to your baby for nourishment. The cord begins to form during week seven.
As your pregnancy progresses and your baby develops, the cord also grows in length and width.
