Baby development at week 5
Baby development at week 5

At week 5, your baby looks more like a tadpole than a human and is about the size of a sesame seed. Though you may not look pregnant just yet, your baby's heart is already beating and pumping blood. It will soon find a more regular rhythm as the heart splits into chambers.

Your baby’s kidneys, liver, intestines, appendix and other important organs also start to grow. The upper and lower limb buds also begin to develop, which will eventually form your baby's arms and legs.

Moving up, the earliest version of the retinas is forming. The nostrils become distinct. The facial features are forming as well.

Even if your baby is quite small at this point, it’s amazing how many of the body organs have already started to develop.
