Congratulations for reaching 40 weeks! Now as heavy as a watermelon, your baby has officially reached the full-term age, when it is most ripe for delivery. Go pat yourself on the back for a job well done!
If you give birth this week, you will be delighted to know that your baby already has developed vision, but it will be quite limited for now. Your baby will be able to see just around one inch (2.5 cm) away, so don't expect that your child to see your face right after birth. Try talking to your baby instead, your voice will be instantly recognized!
If your baby decides to stay for a little while inside your womb, the bones continue to harden except the skull. The skull normally remains soft so that your baby can easily pass through the birth canal.
At birth, you will notice that your baby's scalp will have two soft spots. The first one is in the front of the head, and another one is on the back. These soft areas will eventually harden and fuse together during the first year of life.
