How’s the head doing?

Your baby’s head plays a very important role at week 37. The size, position and presentation of the head can determine how you deliver your baby. Your healthcare provider will palpate or feel your baby’s head at this week’s appointment.

If you are aiming for a normal vaginal delivery, your baby’s head should be engaged at this point. This means that the presenting part should be the head, and not the feet or buttocks as a breech delivery is more difficult to achieve with a vaginal birth.

As the head is an important part to assess at this week, you may be interested in the fact that your baby’s head is now approximately the same circumference as the chest. Despite the similar measurements, your baby’s body will change drastically after birth.
