Your baby is now growing bigger and longer. Now your baby weighs about as much as a coconut. In fact, your baby is now over half of his or her size during birth. Mainly because of fat, your baby will continue growing to look more like a newborn!
The fat layers that continue to develop are deposited in thin sheets. These are found on the neck, shoulder blades and the breastbone. Fats are also abundant in the arms, elbows, wrists and hands. This is vital, as your baby will spend a lot of time flexing and extending those limbs!
The lungs are now able to inflate properly, but a little more time is needed for them to fully mature. Remember that the lungs are the last organs to fully develop.
Your baby, by now, also has fully formed nails that you will soon trim! They’re not quite long yet, so you don’t have to worry if your baby scratches in your womb! Besides, your baby is well-protected by amniotic fluid and vernix caseosa.
