Counting baby's kicks

One of the best moments of being a mother is feeling your baby’s movements. At week 29, your baby’s kicks are becoming stronger. Expect more pronounced movements as you near the end of the third trimester.

Your doctor will now encourage you to count your baby’s kicks for fetal health monitoring.

Count the kicks every day, preferably at the same time. Pick your time based on when your baby is usually active. The recommended kick count is 10 kicks, swishes, jabs, turns or rolls. Hiccups don't count. Just remember that each baby is unique and there is no universal norm for the number of kicks. Get to know your baby’s own rhythm and track the little one’s activity. If you notice the change of pattern, don’t hesitate to contact your doctor.

Remember that your baby’s movement is not an absolute indicator of fetal health, but your doctor will often assess it as part of the whole picture. Nevertheless, make it a habit to count your baby’s kicks daily and don’t hesitate to go to your doctor if you notice a sudden decline in activity.

You can record your baby’s kicks using the Kicks Counter (Menu -> Pregnancy Tools).
