Going to the clinic for a routine ultrasound scan is a good excuse for you to see your baby. Some doctors request for an anomaly scan at this week, which checks for any gross anomalies in your baby’s development.
Whether you get a regular ultrasound scan or an an anomaly scan, there is nothing more reassuring than seeing your baby actually move and witnessing the flickers of the beating heart.
At 23 weeks old, your baby’s physical profile can be clearly seen, though your tiny bean is still a bit thin. Brain structures should appear normal, as are the eyes, nose, lips, spine, bladder, fingers and toes. The placenta and umbilical cord can be visualized clearly, too.
Your little baby is also comfortably crouched inside your womb, with the legs normally pulled toward the chest. Not much fat is deposited yet, but the weight gain will come in the next few weeks!
