What’s happening to your baby at week 21? What’s keeping your little sweetheart busy at this time?
A closer look at the abdomen will tell you that the liver and spleen have done a fascinating job of producing almost all of the blood cells needed at this point. Your baby’s liver will actually continue doing this until just right after delivery, when the bone marrow will be ready to take on the job.
The liver and spleen are important structures of your baby’s digestive system, and it is quite interesting to know that meconium, or the first stool, is slowly forming in the intestines! Don’t worry - your baby won’t be able to pass this yet.
