Baby development at 18 weeks
Baby development at 18 weeks

Your baby grows amazingly fast! At this point, your baby is about as heavy as a bell pepper. Your resident can now feel and hear! Baby’s chest also moves up and down to mimic breathing but your baby is not taking air, only amniotic fluid. Your sweetheart won’t actually breathe in oxygen until delivery.

Other structures continue developing at this week, such as the fingerprints, myelin sheath around the nerves, and the genitals. If you schedule an ultrasound scan anytime this week, you might already see the sex of your baby - that is, if he (or she!) cooperates!

If you’re having a girl the vagina, uterus, and fallopian tubes are in place. If you're having a boy, the genitals are distinct and recognizable. Just hope your baby doesn’t attempt to hide them during your ultrasound!
