Your baby’s sense of taste
Your baby’s sense of taste

Can your baby taste inside the womb? Certainly! At 8 weeks, the neurons have already formed, so by 16 weeks when the taste buds have already developed, your baby is now sensitive to certain flavors.

Did you know that the amniotic fluid mimics the taste of what you eat? Particularly with strong flavors like garlic and curry, your baby can sample what these taste like. If you eat sweet food, the amniotic fluid may also taste sweet.

Studies show, though, that babies are more inclined to sweet tastes as this helps them develop a liking for breast milk. As you give birth and witness your child grow, you may realize that your baby has already developed preferences for certain tastes.
