Baby's fingernails

Your baby’s fingernails start their early growth at week 11, beginning with the nail beds. At week 12, nails start to appear from these beds. Can you imagine that you will trim them soon?

Once the nails do appear, the growth from the nail bed increases with each week. Nail growth is fascinatingly fast, but don’t worry - your baby won’t scratch just yet.

By the week 34, the nails of your baby’s fingers and toes will have grown long enough to reach the fingertips. The nails are still quite soft, and with the lubricant properties of the amniotic fluid, as well as the protective substance your baby is covered in, long nails are not really harmful.
