During the first months of life, newborns have soft bones and a floppy neck. Also, their lungs grow very fast, so babies need to lie fully flat on their backs to develop properly. That’s why pediatricians recommend using a carry cot for the first 4-6 months until the baby can sit up securely.
Sometimes parents prefer to use a car seat instead of a carrycot. Even though car seats are great for quick trips, it’s not recommended for babies to stay in car seats for more than 60-90 mins. It’s because in car seats babies may stay in position with their chin on their chest, which is not good for lung development and breathing.
